Airport Car Service vs Uber: What to Compare in Northwest Indiana

Compare three booking options, not just two names

An app ride requested when you are ready to leave is different from a reservation made ahead. Uber also offers premium products, so comparing a private executive SUV only with a basic app fare can be misleading. Start with the service and vehicle you would actually book.

For a Crown Point departure, use the actual Crown Point airport route. A Valparaiso airport ride starts from a different address and fare zone. A Chicago city trip is also a different itinerary from an ORD or MDW transfer.

Compare the final airport fare for the same trip

Use the same street address, airport, direction, date, pickup time, passengers and luggage for both quotes. Compare similar vehicle categories. A small-car price and a premium SUV price are not like-for-like, even when the destination is the same.

Uber's published Reserve information describes an upfront price with exceptions: stops, a changed destination, a significant route or duration change, or a toll not included in the quote can change it. That means it would be inaccurate to say every Uber trip has surprise surge pricing. Read the specific quote and terms in the app.

Entourage uses published airport base fares with disclosed additions. A $30 scheduled peak-hour charge applies to pickups from 2:00 PM through 5:59 PM. Online card checkout includes your selected optional tip and a 1.99% processing fee. An 18% tip is preselected and can be changed, including to No Tip. Zelle and Pay on Pickup do not add that online card fee in the website calculation.

• Does the price cover the whole vehicle or a ticket for one person?
• Are tolls, airport charges and any booking or reservation fees included?
• Which gratuity and payment fees are selected?
• What changes if you add a stop, change the time or cancel?
• Is the return journey included, or are you looking at one leg?

This guide does not publish a fixed Uber fare or claim that Entourage always costs less. Get current quotes for the trip you intend to take.

Know what has been confirmed before travel day

Uber Reserve supports advance requests in selected locations. Uber states that it does not guarantee a driver will accept the request; its current guidance says the ride is confirmed once you receive driver details. Check the status shown for your reservation rather than assuming that choosing a time alone completes every arrangement.

With a direct private airport booking, review the request or payment result and keep the booking reference when one is supplied. Check any remaining dispatch instructions and contact the operator if the status is unclear. A quote request is not a paid ride, and an incomplete form is not a confirmed booking.

For an early departure from Dyer or a late return to LaPorte, confirm the exact address and timing for that leg. Availability can differ by location, direction and vehicle. Neither this guide nor an airport's general information page can promise that a particular app product or vehicle will be available for your trip.

Choose for passengers and luggage together

A passenger limit does not guarantee room for the same number of large suitcases. Oversized bags, a stroller or other bulky items can change the vehicle you need. Explain these requirements before committing to a ride.

UberX, UberXL and premium Black or Black SUV options are different categories. Uber's airport guidance notes that cargo space varies by vehicle and is not guaranteed; it recommends checking with the driver. Confirm the available category in the app, rather than assuming a larger category will match every private SUV service.

For an Entourage ride, share both the passenger count and luggage details with dispatch. Ask about any child-seat or accessibility requirements before booking; do not assume special equipment is included. If the trip needs more space than the vehicle can provide, discuss an appropriate arrangement first.

O'Hare and Midway pickup: follow your booked service

The place where you meet a driver can depend on the airport, terminal and service category. App rides and prearranged private cars should not be treated as if they all use one interchangeable pickup point.

For Uber: follow the current pickup directions in the app for your chosen product. Uber's ORD and MDW pages explain that pickup locations can vary with terminal, regulations, construction and other trip details. Verify the driver and vehicle details before entering.

For a prearranged private ride: the Chicago Department of Aviation advises contacting the company after collecting baggage so it can coordinate the vehicle and meeting location. Confirm the current instructions with dispatch. Do not walk to a curb based only on an old article or a different service's directions.

Flight tracking is not unique to one booking method. Uber describes it for Reserve airport pickups, and Entourage also uses flight-aware coordination. Give the correct flight details and check the applicable waiting, delay and cancellation arrangements; tracking does not mean unlimited waiting is included.

Which option fits your plans?

• A solo trip with flexible timing: compare the current app quote and direct booking quote. Check the actual available vehicle and full total.
• A family travelling with several bags: start with space requirements, then compare suitable vehicles. Avoid choosing only by the cheapest headline fare.
• An early flight or a fixed appointment: check the booking status, pickup time and how to contact the driver or dispatch. Allow time for the airport process as well as the road journey.
• A return after a long flight: know where instructions will arrive, how to report a delay and who to contact after baggage collection.

The best choice is the one whose actual quote and arrangements match your needs. These are planning tradeoffs, not measured reliability or safety rankings.

1. Enter your full Northwest Indiana pickup address and select ORD or MDW.
2. Match the vehicle to your passengers, bags and any special requirements.
3. Review the final price and the cancellation or change terms for that option.
4. Check the reservation status and save the relevant contact details.
5. Arrange the return separately or provide its date and time for a round trip.
